I watched Music and Lyrics last night, and it was awesome. It was cheesy, yes, but the chemistry between Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore was really good, and it self-parodied in all the right places, and the music was really good, and WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN KRISTEN JOHNSTON?
"Pop! Goes My Heart" will be stuck in my head for days. and "Way Back Into Love" is going on my best music and lyrics ever list. (I don't actually have one, but... okay! Songs sung by a character in a movie that is not a musical, go!)
BEST MUSIC AND LYRICS EVER:
"Way Back Into Love," Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant in Music and Lyrics
"Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You," Heath Ledger in 10 Things I Hate About You
"Down With Love," Ewan McGregor in Down With Love
"Let's Get It On," Jack Black in High Fidelity
"That Thing You Do," the band in That Thing You Do
"Grow Old With You," Adam Sandler in The Wedding Singer
"Joe Lies," Lili Taylor in Say Anything
"Baby It's Cold Outside," Zooey Deschanel and Will Ferrell in Elf
"Afternoon Delight," Will Ferrell, David Koechner, Paul Rudd, and Steve Carell in Anchorman
"Killing Me Softly," Hugh Grant and Nicholas Hoult in About A Boy
"And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," Joanna Chilcoat in Camp
"A Little Priest," Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, and Raquel Castro in Jersey Girl
(shut up, I liked Jersey Girl. Also, Camp is kind of a musical, but that song does nothing in terms of plot, it ISN'T ON THE SOUNDTRACK, and it's one of the best scenes in the movie. So there.)
Add to my list, please?
ETA:
"If I Had Words," James Cromwell in Babe
The song at the end of the movie, Rupert Everett and Colin Firth in The Importance of Being Earnest
